Passive Geotextile Dewatering

Conhur has over 20 years experience in the use of getotextile bags for dewatering sludge and silt.

Conhur can supply a range of geotextile bags for dewatering sludge, silts and other dredged materials. Conhur provide a totally engineered geotextile dewatering solution.

Passive geotextile dewatering is an economical and low-maintenance approach for extracting water from contaminated materials and sediments. It utilises filter bags crafted from a specially engineered fabric to capture solids while permitting water to flow through.

The passive dewatering process entails filling robust woven polypropylene containers with a flocculated sludge feed. The specifically designed geotextile from which these tubes are produced retains the flocculated solids while allowing clear filtrate to exit.

Benefits of passive geotextile dewatering:

  • Low maintenance: Requires minimal monitoring and maintenance
  • Cost-effective: Can be 50–70% cheaper than other sludge removal methods
  • High filling rate: Can fill containers at an unlimited rate depending on the project
  • High level of control: Allows for high control over the moisture content of the final product
  • On-site storage: Can store biosolids on-site, which can help mitigate odour
